La Tour Eiffel (The Eiffel Tower)

What is the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word Paris? For most people, it is the Eiffel Tower, or La Tour Eiffel. That's how it is with me, anyway, which is why I chose a hotel very close to the tower. And that's also why it was the first place I went after I checked into that hotel. Touristy - by all means. But it's my vacation.

Approaching the tower after walking from the hotel.

The Eiffel Tower viewed from the Champ du Mars, looking northwest toward the Trocadéro.

Some of the ironwork detail.

Near the base.

Under the base.

These next few photos are from the deuxième étage (second floor).

Parc du Champ de Mars.

The building with the gold Rotunda is l'Hôtel Des Invalides.

Looking northeast, the Grand Palais is in the foreground, while Sacré Coeur can be seen in the upper left background.

And a look to the northwest reveals l'Arc De Triomphe.

Looking back southeast over Champ de Mars we find l'Ecole Militaire.

A closer look at the circle in Champ de Mars.

And now we find ourselves on the troisième étage (third floor). The top.

The Grand Palais.

General view looking northeast.

Just to the northwest and across the Seine, the Trocadéro. On the left is the Palais de Chillot, and the right the Musee d'Art Moderne.

A better view of l'Arc de Triomphe.

It's route serpentine through the city, the Seine is perhaps one of the most famous bodies of water in the world.

Fellow patrons enjoying the view.

Back on the ground, and across the Seine, between the two parts of the Trocadéro. This will be the only photo on the blog to include myself.
